Title: Chapter XXVII: Mr. Carnage Goes To Carefree
The psychopathic killer reveals to Philbin that Sam is Nova! The principal laughs at the idea saying the teenager can't even save himself from detention. Sam Alexander points to the sky and tells everyone that Nova is heading their way!
After seeing Nova fly by, Carnage is confused. He was convinced Sam was Nova. Still laughing, Philbin points out that there are probably thousands of Sam Alexanders in the country. Carnage responds by knocking the principal to the ground.
The symbiote-wearing psychopath turns his attention to the teenager. He slices open Sam's bulging backpack hoping to reveal the Nova helmet. Instead, a basketball out. Carnage flies off in a rage to chase the Nova who flew past them.
Sam Alexander rushes to the aid of the school's principal. He tells the other students to call 911 and that he's going to get help.
Sam rides his skateboard under a bridge and meets his mother and sister. Kaelynn had been wearing her brother's Nova helmet to trick Carnage and later flew her mom with her to the meeting spot. Eva admits to her son that she understands the excitement of flying now. Sam thanks them for their help and flies off to face Carnage.
Elsewhere in Carefree, Carnage is tearing up the street when a emergency system siren goes off. The sound causes Kasady's symbiote to explode in pain! He quickly tears the horn's pole in half in order to stop the sound. The silence is broken when Nova announced that it's time for Carnage to leave town!
The teen hero grabs the crazed villain and begins to fly him off into space. However, his damaged helmet stops working and they both begin to fall! Thankfully, Sam's helmet reactivates back to full power and Sam punches Carnage straight down into a parking lot. The impact causes a number of cars in the lot to begin blaring their car alarms. The sound causes the symbiote more pain.
Realizing they are in the parking lot of a concert arena hosting an Anthrax concert, Nova grabs Carnage and throws him in front of a giant speaker. The psychopath flees the stadium to escape the pain caused by the heavy metal music. For a brief moment, Sam wonders if he should just let Carnage go. The hero realizes people will die if he doesn't stop Kasady now. Plus he couldn't deal with losing to a man named Cletus.
In the parking lot, Carnage throws a car at Nova who easily catches it. Kasady explains he will just wait for the helmet to malfunction again and then kill Sam. However, after the teen hero mentions Spider-Man's name, Carnage hits Nova in the head. Sam is relieved to find that the punch hasn't caused any signs of his concussion to return.
Just as Nova prepares to knock Cletus senseless, a semi drives by and smashes Carnage into the highway! Sam quickly wraps his stunned enemy with metal guardrails. He then asks Kasady why he won't leave him alone.
Realizing he is beaten, the symbiote-wearing killer confesses that he wants to kill Nova because the teenager remembers when he was changed by a magic spell during the Axis event on Genosha. Cletus can't deal with the fact that someone knew him when he wasn't a crazed killer and decided Sam must die.
Sam Alexander tells Carnage that is the most pathetic thing he's ever heard. Now he must decide what to do with Kasady now that he's captured. Sam decides to drop him off at Rykers Island. However, the security officers tell him that they can't take him and that he needs to deliver Carnage to the police. When Nova asks what happens when other heroes drop off villains, Cletus reveals that the heroes just drop them off and leave. Sam smiles and flies off without Kasady. The officers sigh and take the symbiote wearer to a sonic cell. They will later contact SHIELD to let them know they've had another unexpected delivery.
As Nova happily flies over the Atlantic Ocean, his helmet once again powers off and he falls into the water. He decides that he has to get the helmet fixed immediately.
Later, the teenager visits the Beast to see if he can repair it. Unfortunately, the alien technology is beyond Hank McCoy's expertise. Sam flies to San Francisco to see Iron Man but gets turned away as Tony Stark is still under the evil influence of the Axis spell.
