Title: Chapter XIII: The Punch-Out At The Carefree Corral

In Carefree, Arizona, Sam Alexander is reminded by his mother Eva to be home to babysit his sister while she is at work. Sam agrees and skateboards his way to school.

Suddenly, Karl Moffet hits Sam and he flies off his board! Moffet takes the teenager's bag which contains the Nova helmet and hits Sam with it. Sam gets up and throws dirt in the bully's eyes.

Without warning, the two teens find themselves facing Beta Ray Bill and he's angry at Nova.

Karl begins running away from Bill and knocks himself out by running into a pole. Beta Ray Bill demands Moffet get up and answer for his crimes. Sam intervenes and explains that the bully isn't Nova and he is (after hitting Bill with the helmet).

Sam hits Beta Ray Bill again and the alien hero responds by hitting the teenager with his hammer! After exchanging energy blasts, Bill slams the hammer on the ground which dislodges a power pole. Sam Alexander picks up the pole and bats his foe across the desert!

Beta uses his hammer to unleash lightning at Nova and knocking him down. Before Sam can get up, the alien places the hammer on his chest. Due to the magical nature of the hammer, Nova cannot lift the hammer!

As Beta Ray Bill turns away to pick up his helmet and asks about Skaarn, Nova begins using the Nova Force to create a hole through the ground allowing him to escape. Bill turns in time to receive a powerful punch that knocks him through a billboard and into the ground.

Sam stops when he realizes that his alien attacker had asked about Skaarn. Beta Ray Bill explains that his people were kidnapped by Skaarn. However, Nova unknowingly let him escape when he stopped the authorities from capturing the kidnapper. The teenager throws down his helmet in anger and tells Bill that he has to make it right and stop Skaarn.

Later, Sam stops by Carrie's house and asks her to continue babysitting his sister while he's gone. She says she will check with her mom and be over to his house later if she can.

As he heads home, Sam comes across the area where he had fought Beta Ray Bill. Karl Moffet is trying to explain what happened to the police. The bully sees Sam and tells him to confirm his story. Sam accuses Karl of having sunstroke and making up a wild story and continues on his way.

At home, Eva is unhappy Sam wants to leave when he's supposed to be babysitting his Kaelynn. Her son tries to explain that he had made a huge mistake and has to go fix things. At that moment, the doorbell rings and Carrie comes in. Sam's mother says he can go since his friend is there to babysit. As she turns to leave, Eva sees Beta Ray Bill and screams!

Later, Sam tries to explain to Bill that his mother screams whenever she meets someone from outer space. The alien explains that he understands his appearance can be troubling to others. Nova attempts to trace the helmet in Skaarn's possession. His attempt doesn't work due to damage in the dead Nova's helmet. Beta claims they will find another method to find Skaarn and make things right.
