Title: Chapter Ten: Land and Launch

Sam Alexander relates a story of how he saved the Avengers and the X-Men by defeating Doctor Doom who had possessed the hammer of Thor. In Sam's story, he had flown to the Moon and talked to the Watcher. The Watcher proceeded to send a request to the Silver Surfer. The silver herald of Galactus loaned Nova his board and the teen hero used the board to knock out Dr. Doom!

After the battle, Sam claims that the heroes were laughing at his jokes and hanging onto his every word. Right up to the point when his mom called and he had to ask if he could stay out late with the heroes.

Turns out Sam was explaining a hypothetical situation to his Eva Alexander, Speedball and Justice. Together, the three are trying to work out a contract with Nova in which Sam can be a member of the new New Warriors and still be responsible to his family. Sam is upset that his mother agreed to let him join the Warriors but not the Avengers when Thor offered him membership.

The situation grows more tense when Eva informs Sam that Robbie and Vance are going to be staying with them for awhile.

Later that night, Sam's friend Carrie sneaks by his bedroom window and says that Sam and her need to talk about things. At first, Sam doesn't want to but agrees after hearing Robbie muttering in his sleep about Sam's mother.

In Sam's father's garage, Carrie reveals to Sam that she knows he is Nova. Sam doesn't admit his secret but tells her that, if he were Nova, he'd have to keep it secret so that people he cares about aren't hurt. Carrie misunderstands and believes he doesn't trust her. She leaves angry just as Eva Alexander comes out to the garage. The two begin to argue about Sam being Nova and the teenager flies off into space.

On the moon, Nova talks to the Watcher and asks him if he is wrong to want to be an Avenger instead of a New Warrior. In response, the Watcher shows Sam holographic images of Richard Rider!

Sam is shown various scenes of Rich's career as Nova from his time as a New Warrior to his ultimate role as Nova Prime. Sam Alexander realizes that Rich was an incredible fighter and leader as Nova Prime. He states to the Watcher that maybe Rich Rider wouldn't have had to work so hard if he had been part of Earth's greatest heroes instead of lesser ones. In response, the Watcher shows him a scene from the Infinity Gauntlet affair early on in Rich's career. During the battle with Thanos, Nova took more of a background role due to the powerful heroes involved in the fight.

Sam Alexander finally understands the Watcher's message. He returns to Earth and signs on as a New Warrior.

Eva Alexander answers a knock at the door and finds Principal Philbin waiting. He has come to discuss Sam's missing school and to inform her that her son will need to attend summer school in order to move on to the next grade.

Meanwhile in space, Nova is fighting a species of aliens who are attacking an innocent starship.

Back on Earth the principal admits that Sam is an intelligent and good person. He is impressed with Sam's intellectually curious and has checked out a book about Morse Code from the library that no one has read in 25 years.

In space, Sam is using energy bursts to speak to the aliens in Morse Code. Unfortunately, Sam's new knowledge isn't perfect and he gives the crew a message of gibberish. However, the ship's captain is intelligent and knows what Sam is trying to say. He orders his ship to vent their plasma. Nova uses his power to detonate the plasma which cripples the attacker's ship. Inside the saved starship, Nova helps capture the few aliens who had managed to get into the ship's interior.

On Earth, the principal and Eva agree that Sam must work on his priorities. He also tells her that her husband Jesse Alexander has been fired due to his disappearance from work. Philbin has managed to keep their benefits for a month but couldn't do anything further for them.

As Principal Philbin drives away, Sam comes crashing into the backyard. As he was coming through Earth's atmosphere, Nova began seeing flashes of light and couldn't see his reentry!

When he takes off his helmet, Sam Alexander realizes he is now blind!

Title: A Sneak Peek at Nova #1000

In the future, an adult Sam Alexander flies to his son Jesse's birthday party with a Thanos pinata.

Jesse smashes open the pinata and candy sprays all over the lawn. As the party goers descend on the candy, Jesse bonks Sam in the head with the stick and takes his Nova helmet!

Jesse puts on the helmet and flies away as the new Nova! Sam's mom, Eva, suggests to Sam to let Jesse have his turn as a hero.
