Title: "Starting Over"

The issue begins with Nova battling the Rhino in downtown New York. As they fight, we learn that Nova has been suffering from unpredictable power losses. Unfortunately, he has one while he is battling the Rhino! As a result, Nova is literally knocked into orbit by the horned super-villain. Nova's Xandarian uniform protects him and supplies him with oxygen. After returning to Earth, the Human Rocket finds the Rhino being handled by the She-Hulk!

Feeling useless, Nova leaves the Rhino in the care of the Hulk's cousin. As he leaves, he is being watched by a villain far more dangerous than the Rhino. Xandar's arch-enemy, Nebula, has returned and has sworn vengence on Nova for the death of her father, Zorr. Zorr was the alien who had decimated Xandar after Galactus had destroyed his planet. The previous Centurion Nova Prime, Rhomann Day, had disintegrated Zorr in the final act of his life. Not satisfied with having leaving Xandar in ruins, Nebula now wants to destroy Day's successor, Nova!

We also learn in the flashback sequence that after Nebula wrecked Xandar, Queen Adora used her remaining strength to restore the Nova Prime powers to Rich Rider. Nebula's rampage on Xandar and Adora's actions take place shortly before New Warriors #1.

Back in the present, Rich Rider and Bernie Dillon are busy working at Marvel Burgers. Rich takes a break when his former girlfriend, Ginger Jaye, comes in to the restaraunt. As they are talking, Rich notices Ginger has a black eye. He suspects that Ginger's husband has been abusing her and offers to help. Ginger declines and tells him that she had simply ran into a door. Rich helps Ginger's mood by taking her for a flight around town as Nova.

Their conversation is interrupted by Nova's helmet as it alerts him to trouble in the city. Spider-Man's foe, Dr. Octopus is running rampant and Nova goes to stop him. Their battle is interrupted when Spider-Man charges in to finish off his foe. Rejected for a second time, Nova returns to Ginger and he takes her back to Marvel Burgers. Using the costume's Tesseract Release, Nova once again becomes Rich Rider. As he says goodbye to Ginger, a figure is watching from the shadows.

Later, Rich, Bernie and Roger are on campus when the see Jennifer Smith, a freshman who's in Bernie's French Literature class. She is gorgeous and the three young men are speechless.

At midnight, Nova is at the New Warriors Crash Pad talking to Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher) and Speedball. Dwayne has informed Nova and Speedball that he is leaving the New Warriors to attend college in Seattle. The two remaining Warriors decide to disband the team just as former member, Namorita, joins them. Namorita's body has become disfigured and she's scared. Nova is caught off-guard by his former lover's condition and doesn't know how to respond. She is very hurt by his rejection and tells him to go. Nova leaves and Namorita cries alone.

Later, Rich is watching TV with his roommates, Bernie and Roger, when a news bulletin comes on. There's a bank robbery in progress and the news indicates that it is the supervillain, Gladiator, who's responsible. Nova rushes to stop him. When he arrives, the Human Rocket finds that it's not Gladiator, but a little known villain by the name of Grinder, who's the bank robber. Nova hits him once and Grinder is unconscious. However, Grinder's blade helmet is still active and begins doing extensive damage to the bank! After knocking off the blade (and accidentally causing more damage), Nova drags Grinder out to the waiting police. Grinder wakes up and tells them that it was a terrific battle which Nova barely won. Rather than tell the police what really happened and causing Grinder to feel worse than he already does, Nova goes along with the story.

A few minutes later, a giant spacecraft arrives with weapons firing at Nova! It's Nebula and she's come to kill the Human Rocket. A furious battle rages between Nova and Nebula's warriors. Nova quickly ends the battle by using his Energy Absorption Power. He absorbs the energy of the alien weapons and releases it back at Nebula with full force! Nebula's men are instantly disintegrated but Nebula manages to escape.

While Rich is recovering at home, he receives a call from Ginger Jaye. She is being attacked by her husband who believes Ginger and Rich are having an affair. Her husband, Darren, is insane and determined to kill her! Rich becomes Nova and rushes to her house where Darren is about to murder Ginger with an ax! As Nova grabs him by the neck, the hero has one of his unpredictable power surges! As a result, Darren is thrown through the wall and hurtled full force into a car roof!

At the hospital, Ginger and Nova are told that Darren is in a coma. If he comes out of it, Darren will most likely be brain-damaged and paralyzed for life. Nova is stunned but tells Ginger that at least the wife abuse will stop. Ginger tearfully tells Nova that she is pregnant.
