In Carefree, AZ, Sam Alexander and his family silently look at the small rip in the sky where Richard Rider had gone back into the Cancerverse. Sam quotes Rich's final words "Novas gotta step up." and tears open the rip and disappears.

As he enters the Cancerverse, Sam feels he is Han Solo coming to the rescue. Until he arrives in the other universe and finds himself facing the monsterous form of a controlled Richard Rider Nova!

The mutated Rich attacks Sam. However, when he speaks, Sam Alexander Nova is stunned to discover that it is the voice of the WorldMind!

The WorldMind explains Rich Rider is now with him where he belongs. Sam fights back but is slammed into the ground by his controlled mentor. The young hero bravely gets up and changes his tactics. He attempts to reach the hero inside Rich Rider to fight against the WorldMind.

Sam reveals that ever since he found the Black Nova helmet, he's heard about how Rich Rider was the greatest Nova there ever was. Now he challenges Rich to prove it.

However, the words don't seem to have any effect on the Cancerverse Nova. The two Novas begin fighting an intense battle across the sky. The WorldMind controlled creature blasts and slams Sam hard into the ground. As a grotesque tongue slithers out of the creature towards the teen hero, Sam Alexander makes one final appeal to Rich's humanity. He reminds him that Novas don't get to quit.

Suddenly, the creature stops as a fierce internal battle erupts between the WorldMind and Rich Rider's will! In a final burst of willpower, Rich rips the Cancerverse infestation from his throat!

Free of the creature, Rich Rider Nova throws it to the ground, stomps on it and blasts the creature into ashes. Rich turns to ask Sam if he has a breath mint or mouthwash. The teenager reveals that he doesn't but admits that what his mentor did was amazing. The older Nova sarcastically tells his student he's happy that his agony looked cool to him.

The two Novas find themselves facing an angry WorldMind and a world of controlled creatures coming towards them!

Sam Alexander suggests that Rich open a portal so they can get out of the Cancerverse. Rich Rider explains that he no longer has the full Nova Force once the WorldMind creature was ripped out of him. The two Novas accept their fates and begin fighting a universe trying to kill them!

Suddenly, Sam is knocked to the ground by a round shield. He looks up to find a trio of the Revengers standing in front of him. As Rich effortlessly takes out the Scarlet Witch and Thor at the same time, Sam knocks Captain America with one powerful punch!

Rich Rider Nova flies up to the WorldMind to apologize for leaving him behind. He tells it that he wants to fix things and find a way out for all three of them. The WorldMind reveals that it has only known death from millenia. Every death of a Xandarian, a Nova Corps member and even Rich's multiple deaths in the Cancerverse has been felt by it. The WorldMind's pain was incomprehensible until it realized that death is dead in the Cancerverse. The artificial intelligence expalins that no one will ever feel the pain of death again once it conquers the normal universe.

To emphasize its point, the Revengers return to life and march towards the two heroes. Sam asks Rich how he escaped the first time. The older Nova begins to tell his young friend about the Cosmic Cube when the Cancerverse Thanos appears before them. He is holding the very object Rich Rider was talking about.

Rich Rider Nova blasts Thanos in the face and instructs Sam to grab the cube. Sam Alexander Nova quickly takes it from their foe and flies into the sky. Rich realizes the cube is still drained. He admits to Sam that he no longer has enough of the Nova Force necessary to get the portal open again.

Sam reminds the older Nova that he isn't alone this time. The WorldMind appears to remind his former friend that he doesn't have the power to escape. The two Novas turn towards him holding the cube as Rich corrects the WorldMind by saying that together they do now.

Sam and Rich pour all the energy they have into the cube and a massive explosion rips open a portal long enough for them to return home!

Back in their universe, Rich and Sam land in front of the Alexander home. Shocked by their appearance, Sam's grandmother Abuelita attacks Rich with a garden hoe! Sam takes it away from her and assures his family that Rich is fine. He asks Rich if he's right.

Both heroes smile and Rich agrees.

One week later, the Alexanders are still cleaning up the mess from the Cancerverse creature's attack. Sam asks his mother if he can take a break. Eva Alexander agrees to a ten minute one. In his bedroom, Sam thumbs through the copy of War and Peace which Cosmo lent him.

As he reads a passage about how good comes from going through bad, both heroes are shown enjoying life with their respective family and friends.

At the end of the day, the two Novas fly into space together looking for adventure.
