Richard Rider talks to his mother about things that had happened while he was trapped in the Cancerverse. Gloria Rider explains that his father had passed away a few months ago. She also tells him not to feel guilty that he wasn't there when Charles died. Gloria knows he would have been happy to know his son came back alive.

As Gloria Rider reaches out to touch her son's shoulder, Rich sees a zombified version of her in the mirror!

Pulling back in surprise, Richard realizes he wasn't seeing what was real. He laughs it off and explains to his mom that coming back must have more tiring than he thought. As he goes towards the back door, Richard Rider asks his mother who brought his Nova helmet to her?

Elsewhere in space, Sam Alexander is being attacked a swarm of Sidri! At the same time, Sam is discussing his situation with the being who had requested his help. The being infected by the Sidri is Ego - The Living Planet!

As the two banter about the situation, the Sidri combine themselves into a single giant Sidri and blast at Sam Alexander Nova! Suddenly, the teen hero realizes a way he can stop his attacker. Remembering what happened to Earth's dinosaurs, Sam grabs a giant asteroid and slams it explosively into Ego and destroys the Sidri!

Afterwards, Ego complains that he has a headache. Sam's phone buzzes with a reminder of an appointment and heads towards home.

Back in Carefree, Arizona, Sam flies in and has breakfast with his mother and sister. Eva reminds him that they are having people over later for a party. She also tells him to take a shower since he's been in space for four days. Sam grabs his bookbag and flies to school.

At Carefree High School, the teenager lands behind the school to change into his street clothes. As he takes off the Nova helmet and his uniform disappears, Sam Alexander realizes he forgot his clothes at home.

His friend Blake happens to walk by and Sam asks him for his pants. Blake explains he needs his pants and asks why he doesn't fly home and get another pair. His friend tells him that he'll be suspended by Principal Philbin if he's late again. Blake offers to let him use his gym clothes.

Before he can put on the clothes, a young teenage girl appears and asks Sam if he's okay. Sam Alexander gets flustered and says that he usually has pants but forgot them. The girl walks away while Blake begins laughing hard.

A little later in the hallway, Blake tells Sam that he can save his self-respect by telling the girl that he's Nova. Sam explains that isn't how super heroes work. Blake points out that Tony Stark does it all the time. The embarrassed member of the Champions approaches the girl to say hi. Suddenly, the teen imagines the girl is surrounded by a large group of supervillains who are seeking to date her! In his daydream, Nova defeats all the girl's suitors.

He shakes himself out of his daydream and says hello to the young girl. The teenager introduces herself as Lina. Before Sam can talk to her very long, the Nova helmet's alarm goes off and he has to leave.

Outside the school, Sam puts on the helmet. It tells him that a Nova signal has been detected on Earth. Sam believes it may be from his father!

Meanwhile at the Rider home, Rich continues looking at a picture of him and his father. Sitting on the swing reminds Richard Rider of how he broke his legs on it when he was a kid. He had wanted to fly so badly and, even though he had broken his legs, he refused to quit trying. Using the Nova Force, Rich summons his helmet from the house. He uses his control of the Nova Force to reshape the helmet and uniform.

Richard Rider becomes Nova and launches himself into space with a smile on his face. However, as he reaches the edge of space, he begins to feel extreme pain inside his body!

Rich plummets towards Earth as his rocket trail begins taking the form of something alien...
