Eva is watching the battle between Sam, the clone of her husband Jesse and the Chitauri at Carefree High School on TV. Her co-worker at the diner tries to reassure her that Sam and the other students are safe, not knowing that Sam is in the fight as Nova.

At the school, the evil Jesse clone explains to Sam that his mission is to take the Black Nova helmet to the Chitauri so they can learn how to access the Nova Force with it for their own purposes.

He also informs Nova that the first clone of Jesse was a failure after he learned to care for the Alexander family. Jesse Clone #2 agreed to get the helmet for the Chitauri and eliminate the failed clone. Just as he is about to destroy the good Jesse, the clone is interrupted by emergency medical personnel and a police officer. Before Jesse Clone #2 can destroy them, Sam Alexander grabs him and flies him into the sky.

The emergency team rush over to Jesse Clone #1 and are shocked to find the facial damage he sustained in an earlier battle with one of the Mole Man's monsters. The good clone insists he doesn't need medical help. When they refuse to let him go, Jesse Clone #1 uses the Chitauri helmet remover left behind by #2 to knock the officer out of his way. Jesse Clone #1 runs off and steals a school bus and drives to help Sam.

At the Carefree Shopping Center, the two Novas continue their furious battle! The evil clone turns to kill a group of innocent shoppers but finds himself blasted in the back and into a building by a high energy beam from Sam. #2 grabs a hostage but releases her when Sam tells him to choose between hurting people or fighting him.

The power-mad Chitauri clone begins throwing Sam into the ground and causing extensive property damage. Evil Jesse mocks Sam by telling him that he can see how the teenager is afraid and worried about his real father every time Sam looks at the clone. The battle pauses after #2 throws Nova through a movie theater wall and into the lobby.

By this time, Jesse Clone #1 has arrived at the theater and rushes to Sam's side. The good clone suggests to Sam that he get the evil Jesse to the copper mine abandoned after the Mole Man's monster attack. There won't be anyone there so they can battle without worrying about innocent people getting harmed.

Sam is hesitant and finally admits that the evil clone is stronger than him. Jesse's good clone reassures Sam that the clone isn't stronger than him. He explains that the Black Nova helmet gives him access to more power than he is using and tells him to stop holding back.

With renewed confidence, Nova grabs the evil clone and takes him into the sky. Sam begins furiously punching #2 repeatedly while explaining that he's tired of holding back. The teenager also admits he has to always be strong for his family, can't feel secure around the Avengers and has to lie to his friends about being Nova. With each admission, Sam builds up more Nova Force until he releases a massive blast of energy at the clone!

The good clone arrives to find his evil counterpart unconscious and tells Sam he is impressed. Jesse Clone #1 removes #2's helmet and puts it on. With the Nova powers once again, #1 tells Sam he is going to make sure there are no other clones on their way. Sam Alexander wants to come along but his father's clone explains that he must stay on Earth and protect his family is safe from the Chitauri. Sam agrees.

Jesse's good clone suggests Sam take the evil clone to the Avengers to be locked up. He also reassures Nova that he will contact him once he is able to find the real Jesse. The young Alexander thanks him and asks #2 to call him Sam.

Meanwhile, at the high school, Sam's friends are looking for their missing friend. One of his friends turns towards them and reveals his suspicion that Sam is Nova.
