Jesse Alexander wakes up his son Sam to let him know that he is heading to work. Sam's disappointment is lessened when his father tells him that Eva has made pancakes.

However, before the teenager can enjoy his pancakes, the doorbell rings and it turns out to be his friends Paul and Blake. They ask Sam to join them to play mini-golf. When he tells his mom where his going, Eva asks him about being able to be Nova since his father is at work. Sam makes the point that, even though it is a Saturday, it's no different than when he's at school and his father is at work. Eva Alexander allows Sam to go out with his friends.

Meanwhile at the mine, Jesse and and his co-worker are investigating the mysterious tunnels that have been appearing at the site. The co-worker detonates an explosive to open part of the tunnel in an attempt to find out what may be inside it. Following the large explosion, a massive monster erupts from the ground!

Elsewhere, Sam and his friends are enjoying their time playing mini-golf. Suddenly, Sam's phone receives a text from Jesse. It tells him to come to the mine and bring the Nova helmet with him immediately. Sam makes a quick excuse to his friends that he needs to get home right away to help his dad. His friends are disappointed as they watch Sam run away.

Back at the mine, Sam Alexander Nova arrives and delivers Jesse his Nova helmet. The two Novas begin fighting the giant red monster. The enormous worm-like creature fights back with deadly fire blasts from its mouth!

Without warning, Jesse's helmet malfunctions and the powerless hero gets hit by the full-force of the monster's fire blast!

Sam immediately rushes to his father's side. As he turns Jesse over, Sam is horrified to see his father's face twisted and distorted! However, he doesn't appear to be in pain. Jesse tells his son that he will explain everything later but Sam must stop the creature before anyone is hurt.

Nova flies off and begins blasting the red worm repeatedly. However, none of his efforts are working against the monster.

Looking into the distance, Sam notices an enormous desert rock which is between the monster and the city. Flying at top speed, Nova blasts the side of the rock to pieces and causes a large landslide!

The red worm-like creature is crushed beneath tons of rock.

Sam flies back to the spot where his father had been only to find that he has disappeared.
