Title: "Brothers In Arms"

Above the planet Earth, Nova has been betrayed by his previous Annihilation War ally, the Super Skrull! As Nova tells his former friend that he had trusted him, the Super Skrull corrects him by saying that trust is a human flaw. To teach him the error of his way, Kl'rt unleashes a fire blast that mimics the power of the Fantastic Four's Human Torch and vaporizes Rich Rider!

The Super Skrull tells his fellow Skrulls that he wants a battlefield role and they all return to the fleet. Once they are gone, Nova reappears from within an invisible force field generated by the Super Skull! Rich realizes that Kl'rt didn't betray him at all! He simply pretended to attack Nova in order to save him from an all-out attack by the fleet!

The young Earthman flies down to Earth's surface and lands at his parents' home in Long Island, New York. Upon landing, he is greeted by his mom and dad. Rich's parents ask him about the Skrull invasion and if he can stop them. Nova tells them that he wanted to make sure his family was safe before he went to fight the Skrulls. His mother assures him they are fine but they are worried about Rich's brother, Robert. Robert had left a message on their answering machine with the end of the message sounding like he was under attack. Nova quickly asks his mother where Robert was calling from.

Later in the Adirondacks in upstate New York, Nova lands at the secret installation called Project: PEGASUS. He is greeted by a scene of death and destruction as the Skrulls have already attacked the building! Suddenly, Nova finds himself being attacked by his former New Warriors teammate Darkhawk!

Darkhawk believes Nova is a Skrull posing as his former ally. Nova holds off the attack and finally takes him down with a quick energy blast. As Rich attempts to convince Darkhawk that he's not a Skrull, a squad of Pegasus security men appear. Before the situation can escalate into violence, Rich's brother appears and tells everyone to stand down. To test his identity, Robert asks Nova what was the name of the first robot he built. Rich answers Sherlock. Robert is convinced.

Later, Rich's brother gives his older sibling a tour of the facilities. Down on Sub-Level 1, Nova is introduced to Project Director Gruenwald and the Head of Robotics, Dr. Necker. The two inform their visitor that Project: PEGASUS was attacked due to the fact that they have weapons and technology that could stop their invasion. Unfortunately, in order to prevent the Skrulls from destroying the weapons, the vault holding the technology was locked down thus preventing the Pegasus scientists from using the weapons to protect themselves!

However, one device was still being examined in a lab when the attack began. The only problem is that, due to the Skrull's attack, they lack a computer powerful enough to control the device. The doctors are working on getting one of their artificial intelligence computers up and running before the next Skrull attack.

Ten minutes later, Rich and Robert are in Robert's office area talking about the younger brother's career. Robert confesses that he always wanted to be a hero like Rich and turned down corporate offers so he could work with an organization connected to super-heroes. Rich asks his brother about the project he's looking at on one of the screens. The younger Rider tells him that it is the Minion Project and is a special project of Dr. Necker's. Suddenly, the power to the level goes out! The Skrulls have begun their attack!

Nova and Darkhawk race off to fight off the invaders. Although Darkhawk is stunned by a Skrull, Nova is able to fight off the attackers. He uses his gravimetric powers to seal the door with the weight of two hundred tons. After the heroes return to the labs, Dr. Necker shows Nova the device they had examined. They have named it the Quantum Flask and the energy contained inside of it was discovered in the Negative Zone six weeks ago.

Dr. Necker and Robert again explain that they still lack a computer strong enough to awaken and control the energies in the Quantum Flask. Rich tells the two that he could have helped them a few days ago when the WorldMind was still active in his head. Dr. Necker asks him if she could examine him to see if there is a way to reboot the WorldMind. A few minutes later, Nova is being scanned by the doctor's advanced CAT scan equipment. Robert find the defunct matrix of the WorldMind in Rich's body. Dr. Necker believes they can extract the WorldMind from Nova and temporarily contain it in the gestalt mainframe built for the Minion Program. Once it's in the mainframe, the WorldMind can be rebooted and used to open the Quantum Flask.

Suddenly, the Skrulls begin making their way towards the labs! Nova tells his brother to do what they have to right now. In a burst of pain and energy, the WorldMind is extracted from Richard Rider. The artificial intelligence then opens the Quantum Flask which releases a ball of energy into the lab. Nova asks if the WorldMind can hear him and he receives a groggy response. When the human hero doesn't receive another reply from the WorldMind, he explodes in a burst of strength which destroys the scanning equipment.

Suddenly, the energy that had been contained in the Quantum Flask responds and takes form in front of Nova. The form it takes is that of Nova's dead friend - Quasar!
