Title: "Diamondhead"

Following his battle with the Phoenix, Nova begins flying across the country to his home in Arizona. (Side note: Nova flies over a farm in Littleton, Kansas where he's noticed by a couple of men who resemble DC Comics' Jonathan and Clark Kent of Smallville!)

However, while streaking over Monument Valley, Utah, Sam Alexander is attacked by Diamondhead! The diamond-skinned villain demands to know who the new Nova is because he heard that Richard Rider and the Nova Corps were dead. Sam reveals that Diamondhead is both right and wrong. Before he can elaborate, they crash into a butte!

Diamondhead tells the young hero that he followed him from New York with a jetpack which cost him all the money he had. He insists on knowing why a new Nova exists and refuses to let Sam become a threat. Nova tries to fight back but he doesn't have Rich Rider's skills or power level to harm his foe.

However, when Arch Dyker threatens to take Sam's helmet as a trophy, the young hero becomes extremely angry and blasts Diamondhead unconscious!

After regaining consciousness, Dyker finds that Nova's energy blast has left him blind. Sam Alexander tells him that it is probably only temporary and also explains that if Diamondhead ever tries to attack him again, he'll bring in the Avengers to take him out. Arch Dyker agrees to leave him alone and asks Nova to fly him to the next town.

Sam Alexander tells him no and flies away alone.
