As the Avengers and X-Men continue to battle the Phoenix, the outcome of the battle appears to be in favor of Scott Summers.

Suddenly, Nova comes rushing through the atmosphere in response to Iron Man's call for heroes! At hypersonic speed, Sam Alexander grabs the Phoenix from the sky and begins fighting him in the sky!

Unfortunately, Summers is unharmed by the attack. However, the Phoenix tells Nova that he can see inside his mind and knows his fear and his secret. He reveals that Sam doesn't "belong here".

Before the Phoenix can explain further, the two combatants crash into the ground in an gigantic explosion! Nova is knocked unconscious.

Later, following the defeat of the Phoenix by the Scarlet Witch and Hope, Thor praises Sam for his valor. The God of Thunder asks the young hero to join the Avengers!
